Get Ready for the Big Garden Birdwatch 2025! Save the Date: January 24th-26th

With a fresh year upon us and nature coming alive even in winter, it's the perfect time to reconnect with the outdoors. The Big Garden Birdwatch is back from January 24th to 26th, 2025, and we’re inviting you to be a part of one of the UK’s largest citizen science projects. Sign-ups have just opened in mid-December, so you can join the count and help protect our precious wildlife!

What is the Big Garden Birdwatch?

Each January, the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) hosts the Big Garden Birdwatch, where nature lovers of all ages and backgrounds come together to observe, count, and record the birds visiting our gardens. This nationwide event helps gather essential data on bird populations, tracking species trends across the country. Your hour spent observing contributes valuable information to protect our feathered friends.

Why Take Part?

The Big Garden Birdwatch is a fantastic way to slow down, enjoy nature, and get involved in conservation. Birds are a vital indicator of environmental health, and their numbers often reflect broader ecological changes. With your help, scientists and conservationists can monitor these changes and work towards ensuring a healthier planet for future generations.

How to Get Involved

Getting involved is easy and free. Once you’ve signed up, you’ll receive a digital guide with tips on how to spot and identify birds, set up your birdwatching area, and record your findings. Here’s how to participate:

  1. Sign Up – Head to the RSPB website now that registration is open.
  2. Pick Your Spot – Choose your garden, balcony, or local green space to observe the birds.
  3. Watch & Record – Between January 24th-26th, set aside an hour to count and record each bird species you see.

Why Not Involve the Whole Family?

The Big Garden Birdwatch is the perfect family activity to beat the January blues! Kids will love spotting and identifying different species, and it’s a fantastic way to introduce them to wildlife conservation. Make a morning of it with binoculars, a field guide, and maybe a thermos of hot chocolate!

Sign Up Today!

Don’t miss out on the chance to join a nationwide movement that champions the natural world. By signing up and counting birds, you're making a meaningful contribution to conservation. So mark your calendars for January 24th-26th, and let’s make this year’s Birdwatch the biggest one yet!
